Art in the North End
North End Creative Cultural Exposure Program- 2009 Highlights
Student projects depicting their neighborhood and what they would like it to look like in the future
The future of the North End is bright especially when you see the vision of our future community as drawn by our youth. The paintings of their neighborhoods were part an evening of superb artwork, poetry, song and dance by the youth from the North End Creative Cultural Exposure Program that showcased the tremendous talents that exists in our neighborhood. The event, which was held Friday, August 29, 2009 at the St. Regis Hotel, was the culminating ceremony for the program that was a seven-week summer enrichment program created and operated at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church on Oakland and Custer. The Skillman Foundation provided resources that allowed the youth to participate in multiple cultural activities including field trips, performances, and music recording. I was treated to this marvelous evening that shows that the North End’s future is in good hands with these youth who recognize the potential and embody the spirit of our community.
