Community Engagement
Community organizations, block clubs and radio patrol teams are methods of encouraging residents to be active in their communities. In addition to groups, NDNI also partners with communities to assist in coordinating Neighborhood Celebration events, free resource education seminars and workshops and a host of other resourceful and fun events.
Safety Management
In an effort to impede criminal activity through community- driven efforts, residents have sought guidance from Neighborhood City Hall (NCH), Detroit Police Department and NDNI staff to develop strategic response to safety concerns. NDNI also participated in a task force made up of key stakeholders to access Michigan Department

of Transportation "Safe Routes to School" dollars. The program was partially purposed to fund infrastructure improvements on walking and biking paths to schools. Thanks to this work, many schools have received awards of up to $250,000.
Clean Neighborhoods

Cleanliness is not only important because it helps the beauty of our neighborhoods to be seen, but also because it allows residents to take pride in their communities and to value their areas. NDNI has not only worked at the grassroots level to determine priorities in organizing clean initiatives, but also with residents and local business owners to determine areas of focus. Code enforcement, clean teams and vacant lot reclamation are three of the determined focus areas.

Beautification
Beautification was also a primary objective for residents. Since 2006, we have worked with the General Services Department (GSD) who has planted 300+ trees, designed and installed new flower beds, repainted signage, repaved roadways and swept residential streets. We have also worked with The Greening of Detroit and other organizations to create community gardens, tree farms and pocket parks.
In efforts to brand Detroit neighborhoods, we also installed community banners to not only beautify the neighborhoods, but also increase pride.
